Foods That Make Your Mood Better
Most of us think that comfort foods are bad for us and that we have to stay away from them. Sometimes, if your comfort food is essentially candy or other junk foods, this can be true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be completely nourishing and it’s good for you to eat them. There are a number of foods that basically can raise your moods when you eat them. If you seem to be a little bit down and in need of an emotional pick me up, try several of these.
Eggs, you may be amazed to learn, are great at combating depression. Just see to it that you do not toss the yolk. The egg yolk is the most important part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping elevate your mood. Eggs, especially the egg yolks, are rich in B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be terrific for lifting up your mood. This is because the B vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Try to eat an egg and feel happier!
Put together a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be raised by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and other types of nuts. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that directs your brain how you feel at all times. The more you have of it, the more pleasant you will feel. Not just that but nuts, particularly, are a terrific protein source.
If you want to battle depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. DHA and omega-3s are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can earnestly elevate your mood.
Some grains are truly wonderful for fighting off bad moods. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are great at helping you be happier. They fill you up better and that can help improve your moods also. Feeling starved can be terrible! These grains can improve your mood because it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.
Green tea is excellent for moods. You were sure it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea is found to be rich in an amino acid called L-theanine. Research has proved that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This helps better your mental focus while calming the rest of your body. You already knew that green tea helps you become healthier. And now you are aware that green tea can help you be happier also!
See, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you are wanting to feel better! Try a few of these instead!
