Turn to Food to Improve Your Mood

A lot of us believe that comfort foods are not good for us and that we need to stay away from them. Sometimes, if your comfort food is essentially candy or other junk foods, this can be true. At times, comfort foods can be very nourishing and good for us to eat. Several foods really do raise your mood when you consume them. If you feel a little bit down and you need a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are great for helping you fight depression. Just see to it that you don’t throw away the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the yolk particularly, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can actually help you improve your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–work better. Eat a couple of eggs to cheer up!

Put together a trail mixfrom various seeds and nuts. Your mood can be raised by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc. This is because these nuts are rich in magnesium, which helps to increase serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that directs your brain how you feel all the time. The more serotonin you have, the better you will feel. Not just that, nuts, specifically, are a terrific protein food source.

Cold water fish are excellent if you would like to feel happier. Tuna, trout, mackerel, herring and wild salmon are all high in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can actually help you battle your depression.

Grains can be wonderful for overcoming a terrible mood. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are great at helping you feel better. These grains can help you feel full for longer too, which is a mood improver. It’s not difficult to feel low when you feel famished! These grains can help your mood elevate because it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. You digest these grains more quickly than other things which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.

Your mood can truly be helped by green tea. You were simply expecting to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea is high in a particular amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has proven that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while at the same time making the rest of your body more relaxed. You probably already knew it is not difficult to get healthy when you consume green tea. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood as well!

See, you don’t need to stuff your face with junk food when you are wanting to feel better! Test out these suggestions instead!
