Use Food to Boost Your Mood
Most of us have been conditioned to think that comfort foods are terrible and must be avoided. If your comfort food is candy or junk food this holds true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be completely healthy and it’s good for you to consume them. There are a number of foods that actually can improve your moods when you eat them. If you seem to be a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try several of these.
Eggs, you may be amazed to learn, are fantastic at combating depression. You must see to it, however, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The yolk is the most crucial part of the egg in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, particularly the egg yolks, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can really help you improve your mood. This is because these vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Try to eat an egg and feel better!
Make several trail mix of nuts or seeds. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and so on are all good for raising your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that directs your brain how you feel all the time. The more serotonin in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Not only that but nuts, particularly, are a great source of protein.
If you would like to defeat depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all high in omega-3s and DHA. These are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can really help you fight depression.
It’s easy to drive away your bad mood when you consume grains. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all wonderful for helping you be in a happier state of mind. These grains fill you up better and that can help improve your moods also. Feeling hungry can be terrible! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are not difficult to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps kick start a rise in your blood sugar which in turn brings up your mood to a happier place.
Your mood can really be helped by green tea. You were sure it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have discovered that this amino acid actually stimulates brain waves. This will improve your brain’s concentration while at the same calming the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you become better. Now you know green tea can help you be happier too!
So you see, you don’t need to stuff your face with junk food when you are wanting to feel better! Try a few of these hints instead.
