Learn How to Improve Your Mood with Food

Most of us have been trained to believe that comfort foods are terrible and are to be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is essentially candy or other junk foods, this can be true. Otherwise, comfort foods may be super healthy and good for you. There are a number of foods that basically can improve your moods when you eat them. If you feel a little bit down and you need an emotional pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, you may be amazed to discover, are fantastic at battling depression. Just be sure that you do not toss the egg yolk. Whenever you wish to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most important part of the egg. Eggs, specifically the egg yolks, are full of B vitamins. B vitamins can actually help you improve your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–work better. Try eating an egg and jolly up!

Make a trail mixout of different seeds and nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all great for helping to boost your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which increases your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical substance that directs the brain how to feel at any given point in time. The more you have of it, the more pleasant you will feel. Not just that, nuts, in particular, are a great source of protein.

Cold water fish are excellent if you wish to feel better. Tuna, trout, mackerel, herring and wild salmon are all rich in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two substances that increase the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can actually help you battle your depression.

Some grains are truly excellent for repelling bad moods. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are excellent at helping you feel better. They help you feel full too which can really help to better your mood. It’s easy to feel depressed when you are starving! These grains can elevate your mood because it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps bring up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.

Green tea is fantastic for moods. You just knew it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea is loaded with a certain amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies prove that this particular amino acid can essentially induce brain waves. This helps focus your mental energy while simultaneously making the rest of your body more relaxed. You likely already knew it is not difficult to get healthy when you drink green tea. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood too!

See, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you are wanting to feel better! Try these hints instead!
